MUSC's Neonatal intensive care unit
The reason why you are here. Your donation with Charlotte's Greyces will go directly to MUSC's NICU unit in Charleston, South Carolina. Through your donations, families will be given the same care and support the Williams family was shown. Their vast team will provide an unparalleled amount of care to those families who need it most.
March of Dimes
The March of Dimes works to end premature birth and other problems that threaten our babies. They help moms have full-term pregnancies and healthy babies. If something goes wrong, they offer information and comfort to families. They also research the reasons why babies are born too soon or very sick and work on preventions.
After decades of increases, the rate of premature birth in the United States has now been on a steady decline for the last several years. This decline —to 9.6 percent today—has saved thousands of babies from being born too soon. It also has saved our nation billions of dollars in excess health care costs. Despite this progress, about 380,000 babies are born prematurely each year in the United States. Worldwide, 15 million babies are born prematurely each year. (Information from March of Dimes.)
Mother's milk bank of south carolina
With support from the South Carolina Neonatal Consortium and the South Carolina Birth Outcomes Initiative, the Medical University of South Carolina has developed the first donor human milk bank in the state.
SC breastfeeding mothers with surplus milk supply are invited to become MMBSC milk donors to provide pasteurized milk to SC infants for whom mother’s milk supply is limited. The milk bank initially will provide milk to all SC hospitalized very low birth weight infants.
The MMBSC is approved as a developing milk bank by the Human Milk Banking Association of North America. It is a non-profit milk bank housed at the Medical University of South Carolina. (Information from MMBSC.)
Jillian donated over 450 bags of breast milk to MMBSC from her pregnancy with Charlotte. To date, it has helped nourish over 14 babies. Learn more about MMBSC.
