Our STORY
Charlotte Grey Williams was born on April 12, 2016. She was nine weeks early. The pregnancy was textbook, the nursery was almost complete, and an excited big sister was sound asleep when her Aunt scrambled over late that evening to keep watch. Parents, Steve and Jillian, rushed to the nearest hospital as they knew something was critically wrong. Hours later, Charlotte was born via an emergency c-section.
Within the days and weeks that quickly came, but went by in slow-motion, Charlotte had a brief stay at McLeod Health NICU Unit in Florence, South Carolina before settling in for a journey at MUSC Children's Hospital in Charleston.
Under the guidance and care at MUSC's NICU, Charlotte underwent six blood transfusions, five brain surgeries, and countless CPAPs and needle pricks.
She made her home at MUSC for 84 days. On July 14, 2016 Charlotte peacefully passed away while lying in bed, no "strings" attached, with her parents by her side.
The Palliative Care team, the nurses, surgeons, admin, and all staff created a safe environment where information flowed, care and comfort came first, and egos were left behind. The teams spoke like they were family. They spoke as if this child was their own. And everyone wanted Charlotte to have everything needed to make her fight strong and spirited.
Because of those moments. And because of the dedicated support, love, and care shown. And most importantly because of the extra attention and tender guidance that was given during Charlotte's last hours, Charlotte's Greyces was formed.
